On the 4100 the 3 point hitch is rated for 930# 24" behind link ends so if the backhoe is less than that you should be ok. One thing to remenber is you have to have a loader on the tractor to use a the backhoe.

The 870 does not have the working room that the 870 has so if your going to be on the tractor for any period of time you will be much happier with the 4300. Getting onand off the tractor is also much easier with the 4300. Another thing is look into the attachments that you can put on the 4300 vs the 870. Three point hitch is rated at 2200# lift capacity 24" behind link ends. The only other thing I see is the horse power differance, 28 vs 32 and 25pto vs 27pto. Good luck with your choice, I've been looking at a 4400 and my friend has a 870 but I'm no expert but I hope some things I noticed helped.

The 790 is a good tractor for the price. There is three good ways of finding information on attachments. The first would be a purchasing guide from your dealer, or you could go to john deere.com whitch is there web site, but the one I use the most is www.jdlawns.com it is and excellent site that has all attachments except snow removing. The reason I chose this site is its the only one I've found that has prises listed. John Deere and Woods both make post hole diggers for your tractor, good luck.
